Christmas in a box

I love presents, especially those that come unexpectedly. So I never write a letter to Santa – it’s better to get a surprise from him J

This Christmas we hope to surprise some children whose families will not be able to afford Christmas gifts for them. I find it important for every child to get a present – they have been good for sure during the year.
Give a smile Foundation has been delivering Christmas boxes to such kids in Haskovo Region for the past 6 years. The boxes came from Europe and US but this year the number of boxes will be smaller and the targeted kids are not fewer. Let’s make some boxes.

You can come to share decorating the boxes or just bring one that you prepared at home, on December 1st, at Soho (4, Iskar Street), from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What is a Christmas box? Shoe box, decorated as a gift, full of nice stuff.

How Do you Pack  A Shoebox?

1. SHOE BOX
Use an empty shoe box (standard size, please).  You can wrap the box (lid separately), but wrapping is not required at home – we can do it at the event.

2. BOY OR GIRL
Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child’s age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Label the box with the age and gender. Again, we can help with the age category on site.

3. FILL WITH GIFT
Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child.  Some gift ideas: toys, drawing materials, hats/ scarves/ gloves/ socks, toothpastes and brushes, some Christmas decorations, some table luxuries – chocolate, cookies, etc. Please do not put war toys like knives, guns and toy soldiers, nor liquids, vitamins, fragile stuff.

4. WRITE A NOTE
Optional – you can decide to write some wishes or a letter. If you leave your address, the kid may write you back.

5. DROP OFF @ Soho
Place a rubber band around each closed shoe box and drop it off during the collection time – this Saturday, December 1st, 11-15 h.

It happened to me once – not to receive a Christmas gift. Although I was not a kid, it felt like I have been really bad for the past year.

Here are some pictures from our packing at home. While choosing the gifts, Nia was quite creative but unfortunately I had to stop some radical ideas. She thought that the best present for a kid is a dog or a cat or better both, but I offered her to leave the animals for 1st of June :)

We packed all categories - toys, drawing and writing materials, toothpastes, candies and chocolates. I would prefer to pack home made cookies, but baked by me are no gift to anyone, so we bought some teeth-spoiling conceits.

The coolest one is a small pink bag for a girl, where Nia put some colorful hair bands, bracelets and shining stones.
We still have to write our wishes tonight and pack the boxes nicely with the wrapping paper.

Christmas, Venice and skiing are the only reasons for winter to exist, I think. Otherwise we just dress heavily, gain weight and get colds when winter comes.
Let’s make it a nice winter.
